REST STOP AT HINGOL: CREATING A CARAVANSERAI
PROJECT TYPE: REST STOP
LOCATION: BALOCHISTAN
USER GROUP:
TRAVELLERS, TOURISTS
For a rest stop strategically positioned between Karachi and Hingol, an ancient architectural precedent deeply embedded in Islamic tradition and the regional heritage was chosen as a precedent: the Caravanserai. The modern-day significance of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) along this route mirrors the historic Silk Route, rendering this time-honored solution profoundly pertinent. The envisioned architecture would essentially serve as an oasis, offering solace and respite to the weary traveler, much like its historical antecedent.

THE KHANQAH: ELEVATING SUFI RITUALISTIC EXPERIENCE
PROJECT TYPE: KHANQAH
LOCATION: BHITSHAH, SINDH
USER GROUP: SUFI DEVOTEES, PILGRIMS
A site visit to Bhit Shah and the immersive experience of the activities at the Shrine of Shah Abdul Latif Bhittai profoundly inspired the concept for this Contemporary Sufi Khanqah. The aim was to design spaces through a meticulous analysis of ritualistic activities in isolation and then to synthesize the program based on the transition between collective and individual worship. The process was akin to assembling a complex puzzle, a challenge that proved to be the most enjoyable aspect of the project.
