I’m moving at a slow pace with that book of mine. But here’s some proof of progress:
I’ve made a lot more but it’d be nicer to put them up all at once. Now for question of the day:
How to impress your middle school librarian 101? Write her book reviews.
I got on fairly well with my librarians in grade school. I went from the annoying book worm who’d always ask to read things from the restricted ‘young adult’ section to awesome cute kid who gets the keys to the new books cupboard in a matter of months.
How?
International Give a Child a book day.
At least….I don’t even think that exists..but it was some world book day and our library soft boards looked despairingly empty.
The entire class was forced to write book reviews during English period. Me…I had other ideas. I had a copy of James and the Giant Peach in my bag and was done with the whole writing rigmarole. I proceeded to pull out another page and copied down the illustrations on the cover. Just to kill time just to avoid my teacher making me write three more boring reviews.
Things changed the day I handed in my book review. First things first the librarian was a lot nicer, aside from me having to make 3 more drawings for the bulletin board, I got my pick of books from the new arrivals cupboard. In short, life was swell.
what’s the takeaway from this little short story?
Bribe your librarian with bookreviews in gradeschool
The reason why the book review was such a hit was probably because of the marker drawings on the front cover.
We live in a super visual age, instagram is becoming cooler than facebook. I’m not going to go with the ‘picture is worth a thousand words’ thing because it might ruin this overly verbose blog that I try to write. But, the next time you review a book…or a movie..or whatever. Pictures are a much more cooler and unique way to share what you liked the best.
You could:
make a few sketches of the illustrations
or even make your own illustrations? It doesn’t really matter whether they’re artistically great or not. It might take a bit more effort on your side but would be a big favour to the audience/ viewer/ reader and even to yourself.
